This confidential life sciences company reached out to HED for our team’s expertise in laboratory planning and design when the need arose to convert office space from their San Diego headquarters into a FAB7 (ISO7) lab. HED created a 2,200 sf clean room, equipped with ISO 7 nanofabrication lab main lab and ISO 8 gowning and tank room, accommodating the latest state-of-the-art prototyping equipment for genomic profiling with flexibility to adapt to the rapid advancement of nanotechnologies.

Due to the sensitive nature of the equipment, structural upgrades were performed to provide vibration isolation zones. The ISO 7 space was equipped with an electrostatic dissipative floor and a gasketed ACT ceiling system with HED designed, custom relocatable electrical and gas services umbilicals nicknamed “Stalactites.” To accommodate the changing power requirements and points of connection of the cutting-edge equipment developed in unison with the project, the team utilized 3D modeling at all points of connection allowing the client and the MEP engineer to understand the space and expedite decision making.

To safeguard product development and make for happier scientists, the exterior windows were preserved, but were covered with special UV film to block filter out damaging light waves.
