A catalyst for evolution
The Kinesiology, Wellness, and Athletic Complex (KWAC) at East Los Angeles College (ELAC) offers students a place to develop connections with their peers, the larger community, and the outdoors, increasing student success and academic excellence. KWAC will be the catalyst for the evolution of the west side of campus, with the building acting as the anchor for a student wellness village that will be counterpart and complementary to the student success village centered around the library.

The design approach for this facility draws inspiration from the healing power of nature to fulfill the vision of a model for wellness and health. The site offers the opportunity for the building to be the prominent face of ELAC as both a campus gateway and destination to all those attending sporting events. Located at the intersection of two main vehicular access points along Avenida Cesar Chavez and Bleakwood Avenue, KWAC is poised to create a bustling campus hub for the kinesiology department.

KWAC's ethos of "not just making a building on campus but expanding the campus with a building" supports the project’s goals to be "a center focused on health and wellness that connects the larger ELAC community to the surrounding neighborhood". These compelling principles create a strong identity for the facility, which will be a showcase for promoting wellness and health.
