The HED team was selected by the MiraCosta Community College District (MCCD) to design and construct a new Chemistry and Biotechnology Building on their Oceanside campus. The project, which is a design-build partnership between HED and C.W. Driver, will consist of 24,000 sf of new, state-of-the-art STEM instructional space for 21st century learning, including new chemistry labs and 40-person, flexible classrooms. As MCCD’s Biotechnology program continues to expand as its baccalaureate degree comes online, the new building will provide a new, expanded home for the program.
The intended location for the new building is on the northeast quadrant of the campus. When complete, the Chemistry and Biotechnology’s orientation will create a STEM academic hub. The project is envisioned to push MCCD’s STEM curriculum to the next level through a mix of instructional, work, social and laboratory spaces, activated by integration with the latest technology, to allow for a level of instructional flexibility that will benefit MCCD’s students.
