On the outskirts of Monterrey, Mexico, Bosch Siemens Home Appliances (BSH) selected HED to design their ambitious industrial multi-building home appliance manufacturing facility on a 43-hectare parcel, with expansion plans to 64 hectares.
The arid climate dictated the landscape and the design approach. Water sustainability was a key goal, with an on-site wastewater treatment facility repurposing gray water for landscape irrigation. This sophisticated system underscores BSH's commitment to eco-conscious practices. Hydrology posed a challenge that HED’s designers solved with gentle slopes and careful consideration for grading and drainage. The site boasts a ¾-mile linear garden, planned not just as a pedestrian pathway but as a haven for biodiversity and employee well-being. Native desert flora like tall yuccas, creosote bushes, and mesquites find a new home here, salvaged and transplanted as part of BSH's sustainable design ethos. Within the linear garden, raised beds flourish with vegetables, nourished by the hands of employees. Recreational spaces, including soccer and basketball courts, offer avenues for leisure and physical activity. A small park is located at the east end of the linear garden featuring trees and plantings, a shade structure and benches for employees to experience a natural respite from their work during breaks.
