A distinctive approach, entry, image, and experience builds a sense of community among patients and clinicians. Private and secure staff entries to the department, separate from the public, are easily accessible. The discrete public entry gives students the confidence to enter and take advantage of services so that wellness is integrated into their daily lives. The reception opens to garden views, providing users with opportunities to relieve stress and anxiety.
Providing opportunities for connection to the outdoors and nature is a key feature of the design and furthers the heart, mind, spirit connections. The concept is designed in an immersive healing garden that engages all five senses, connects people to the unique ecology surrounding the building, and features the healing properties of native desert plants. Everyone who enters the site would be welcomed by gardens as they move to the building entries. The healing qualities of these spaces would provide a soothing calmness that is both therapeutic as well as relaxing, designed to take advantage of a moderate or warm climate.
Informed by solar and wind analysis, the concept would be oriented so the building and major gathering spaces in the landscape would optimize human comfort and create comfortable microclimates throughout the site.
