News-Press & Gazette Company sought out HED to design and lead the renovation of an existing downtown high-rise in Omaha, NE to support centralized, secure computing operations. The new data center is over 66,000 square feet of multi-tenant interconnection computing space with concurrently maintainable infrastructure that serves the growing Midwest market and beyond. The project’s location at 1623 Farnam was central to its appeal, allowing News-Press & Gazette Company to capitalize on the 50+ carriers available to the facility to attract occupants requiring a reliable facility to house their computing needs. However, the downtown location provided some unique challenges to the design team, who had to apply repeatable, scalable design solutions to a preexisting structure within tight size constraints.

HED’s strategy was to provide a scalable design that would allow controlled, replicable growth from day one to ultimate capacity while allowing for continued operation during future expansion. To provide this future adaptability, HED worked closely with the owner, contractor, vendor, and project team to provide a cost-effective, reliable installation that could be repeated.
