An innovative learning center opens doors.
A brighter future.
Families Forward Learning Center (FFLC) of Pasadena, formerly known as Mother's Club, is a non-profit organization that provides free education and social services for low-income families. Using an innovative, two-generation learning model, FFLC empowers parents alongside their children, providing practical skills. Education. Support, and hope.

HED partnered with FFLC to transform their 10,000 square foot facility into a state-of-the-art, high-quality learning environment that would serve children, parents and staff far into the future. The resulting design is warm and welcoming—a bright, open environment that blurs the boundaries between outdoors and indoors, learning and play. Sliding glass doors and moveable partitions maintain transparency and easily accommodate a wide range of programs and activities, while large, clerestory windows fill the interior with natural light. A learning tool itself, the completed, LEED Gold structure showcases sustainable design in action for both participants and the surrounding community—one more example of how FFLC is helping to create a brighter future in Pasadena for everyone.

Green building falls in line with our organization’s philosophy and practices, so it made sense. But we didn’t realize how lovely it would actually be until we moved in. It was a huge bonus.”
