Mira Costa High School
Future. Focused.
Renovating a 1950s high school campus for 21st-century learning.
Building (sustainable) character.
Developed in close collaboration with faculty, administration and community members, Mira Costa High School’s campus-wide renovation takes maximum advantage of existing features, preserving buildings with strong character and replacing those of minimal value.

Sustainably designed, the new structures—including math and science, performing arts and multipurpose buildings— use generous daylighting and photovoltaic arrays for onsite energy generation. Existing buildings were extensively renovated to leverage orientation, daylighting and natural ventilation. The reconfigured campus also includes a new, central student commons to gather and ground the campus community.

The completed renovation and redesign strengthens the Mira Costa High School community with expanded program opportunities, new facilities and updated classroom spaces, and transforms a mid-century campus into a 21st century center of learning, innovation and growth.
